【Taiwan】 10 Travel Tips

Taiwan is an island smaller than Switzerland. There are 23 million people there that enjoy well-developed cities, traditional towns, spectacular nature, and delicious food. Come to hike our mountains, relax on our beaches, explore the nature with internationals, aboriginals, and locals! 

Many of our friends and family in Norway have never been to Taiwan. Hence, I listed several travel tips in Taiwan for you.

1. Weather

It is quite warm and humid in Taiwan.

Typhoon season: July - September

Winter (November to March): more rain in the north and sunny in the central and southern parts

【Taiwan】Accommodation - Airbnb

Well, there are many ways of finding a place to stay.

If you are looking for a hotel or hostel for less than a week, booking.com or agoda.com often offer some special sales.

If you will be staying for more than 7 days, there are a lot of hosts on airbnb.com that give out "weekly discount". The discount usually starts from 10% - 20% off.

From my experience, I can easily find cheap hostel (dorm room) when I am traveling alone. Yet, if you are aiming for some privacy and comfort, hotels and Airbnb would be a better choice.

【Taiwan】From TPE to Chiayi - discount and hacks

After getting your SIM card at TPE airport, here is how you can get to Chiayi City:

1. Follow the direction to take Taoyuan Airport MRT
2. Get off at A18 Taoyuan HSR station
3. Buy HSR ticket and hop on HSR train to Chiayi
4. You will be in Chiayi HSR station after 1.5 hours
5. Take a taxi to your destination in Chiayi for about NTD 100 per person
6. Or take the free shuttle bus to Chiayi city center by presenting your HSR ticket
